Laurentino Gomes is a journalist and bestselling author. His first book in a trilogy on the history of Brazil, 1808, the Flight of the Emperor, has sold nearly 1 million copies and won the prestigious Jabuti Prize, Brazil’s highest literary honor. The Brazilian Academy of Letters chose 1808, the Flight of the Emperor as 2008’s best work of nonfiction.
