Dr. Umesh C. Goswami, Professor, Department Of Zoology, Gauhati University, Guwahati -781014, Assam, India Passed His M.Sc.In Zoology With A Gold Medal In 1972 From And Later Obtained The Ph.D. Degree From Gauhati University In 1979. Professor Goswami Started His Illustrious Research And Teaching Career As Lecturer In Cotton College (1974) And Later Joinned Gauhati University(1977).He Became Professor In The Department Of Zoology, Gauhati University. As Head He Has As Elevated The Department Into A UGC's-SAP And DST-FIST Sponsored Department Along With Establishment Of Three (3) Centers Such As Aquaculture And Aquatic Resources Management Center, Biodiversity And Bioinformatics. He Has Conducted Several Research Projects Sponsored By UGC, DST, DAE, ICAR, World Bank, Schedule Castes And Schedule Tribal Dept. Of Govt. Of Assam , And State Bank Of India Till Date. He Has Produced 26 Ph.D. Students And Has Published A Series Of Research Papers In Journals Of National And International Repute. Dr. Goswami Pursued His Post Doctoral Research (On Fish Physiology) In The Charles University Prague (1979), Indian Institute Of Science (On Retinol Binding Protein,1980-81), Michigan State University, USA (On Retinoid Status Of Salmonids Of Great Lakes, Michigan,1987-1988), Institute Of Aquaculture Research, Norway (On Carotenoids Metabolism,1993-1996).Besides That He Had Several Interaction And Visited Laboratories Of University Of Leiden, The Netherlands, University Of Tokyo, Japan, University Of Sydney Australia, AIT-Bangkok, University Of Munich. Germany. Within India He Has Carried Out Several Collaborative Research Programmes With Food Technology And Enzyme Engineering Division Of BARC (Vitamin A Deficiency And Muscle Enzymes Of Freshwater Fish), Mumbai, Carcinogenisis Division Of Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai, On Carotenoids And Retinoids And Carcinogenesis. His Notable Achievement Is The Findings Of The Mechanism Of Formation Of Vitamin A In Freshwater Fish, The Identification Of Several Vitamin A Derivatives From Freshwater Fish Liver Oil As Potent Anticarcinogenic Agent And The 2 Biology And Reproduction Of Some Commercially Important Fishes Of Inidian Origin. Mechan He Was The Sectional President Of Animal,Veterinary &Fishery Sciences Of The Indian Science Congress In 2007. Dr. Dilip Kumar (B. 1948) Received His M.Sc. And Ph.D Degrees From The University Of Bihar, Muza ffarpur. He Has Illustrious And Distinguished Career In Teaching, Research, Extension And Development In Fisheries In India And Abroad. He Joined The Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute, Barrackpore As An ARS Scientist. He Established The Aquatic Animal Health Management Unit At CIFA, Bhubaneswar, And Developed It Into A Premier Centre Of Advanced Research In Ichthyopathology. He Underwent Advanced Training In Fish Virology And Fish Cell Culture At Zagreb University, Croatia Under Dr. N. Fijan. Kumar Later, Had A Brief Stint At CIFE, Mumbai, As Senior Scientist. In 1990, He Joined FAO As A Fishery Extension Expert And Rose To The Rank Of Chief Technical Advisor/Team Leader For Several FAO/UNDP Projects . Over 15 Years Of Tenure At FAO And Other International Agencies, Kumar Played A Pivotal Role In The Development Of Fisheries And Aquaculture In Several SAARC, ASEAN And East African Countries. His Notable Contributions To The Art And Science Of Aquaculture Include The Development Of Models Of Integrated Fish Farming, Major Carps. In The Field Of Marine Fisheries, He Has The Distinction Of Developing The Highly Acclaimed "Fisheries Co-Management" Model Under FAO/UNDP Project In Bangladesh That Ensures Community Participation In The Management Of Coastal Fisheries Resources And The Development Of Low Cost Aquaculture Technology In Bangladesh, Sri Lanka And Vietnam. He Conceptualized And Field-Tested The "Trickle Down System Of Aquaculture Extension," Which Is Now Widely Practiced In Bangladesh And Several Other Asian Countries. He Also Developed Highly Acclaimed Aquaculture Technology For Upland Communities In Vietnam, And These Contributions Brought Him The Prestigious Edward Souma Award Of FAO For The Year 1997. He Is Also The Recipient Of ZSI Gold Medal And E.P. Odum Gold Medal.Dr. Dilip Kumar Is The Founder Secretary Of The 'Association Of Aquaculturists' At Bhubaneswar. He Played A Lead Role In The Formation Of 'Network Of Aquafarmers Associations In The Asia-Pacific Region'. A Prolific Writer, Dr. Dilip Kumar Has A Large Number Of Scientific Papers, And Three Highly Acclaimed FAO Books On Fisheries Development And Aquaculture. His Classical Book On Composite Fish Culture Written About 30 Years Back. Dr. Dilip Kumar Is Currently The Director/Vice Chancellor Of The Central Institute Of Fisheries Education, Mumbai. Dr. Dilip Kumar Is The Sectional President Of The Sectional President Of Animal,Veterinary &Fishery Sciences Of The Indian Science Congress In 2009.
