Dr. V.R.P. Sinha Started His Career In 1961 As A Lecturer In Zoology And Taught For A Decade At The Universities Of Ranchi, Bihar And Liverpool, U.K. He Did His Ph.D. From verpool University, UK In 1965. CIFE Conferred Him D.Sc. (H.C) In 2007. He Has Been Involved In Fish Biology, Fisheries And Aquaculture Teaching And R&D For Over Five Decades In Different Countries And Continents Under Different Governments, The World Bank And The FAO Of The UN. The Correct Identification Of Male And Female Sex Of The European Eel And Clarification Of The Confusion Of Their Sex Change Were His Most Notable Contributions In England. He Also Hypothesized That The Sargasso Sea Is The Emerging Ground Of Leptocephali And Not The Breeding Ground Of The European Eel. In Malaysia, He Separated Fish Pituitary Gonadotropin And In Hungary Established That The Gonadal Hydration Was The Prerequisite For Carp Spawning And Clarified Why They Did Not Spawn In Ponds In India. He Was Instrumental In Revolutionizing Freshwater Aquaculture In India Through omposite Fish Culture And Fish Seed Production. For His Contributions, He Was Awarded The Leverhulme Fellowship (1964), Hooker Award (1975), Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Memorial Prize (1976), ICAR Team Leadership Award(1979), Lal Bhadur Shastri Award (1989) Great Son Of The Soil Award (1991), Ashirwad Award (1992), Congress Of Zoology Gold Medal (1995), minent Zoologist Award, ZSI (2006) And The Millennium Plaque Of Honour Of ISCA (2008). He Is A Fellow Of The Indian National Science Academy, National Science Academy, Indian National Academy Of Agricultural Sciences, And Many Other Professional Societies. As The Head And National Project Director Of The FARTC (1976-86), He Established The CIFA, KVK And TTC At Bhubaneswar. He Also Established There The Lead Center For Carp Farming Under The FAO/ NACA. As The Director, He Played A Crucial Role In Getting CIFE, Mumbai, Upgraded To The Deemed University In1989. He Has Published Over 100 Scientific Papers In Different Journals Of France, Germany, Hungary, India, Italy, Malaysia, The Netherlands, Sri Lanka, The U.K And The USA .In Addition, He Has Also Published Ten Books In Bangladesh, India, Thailand And The U.K. Dr. P. Jayasankar Has Worked For 21 Years In Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). In Marine Fisheries His Notable Contributions Are Demersal Fish Stock Assessment, Evaluation Of Genetic Heterogeneity And MolecularTaxonomy Of Commercially Important Fishes And Cetaceans. He Joined As Head, Division Of Fish Genetics And Biotechnology, Central Institute Of Freshwater Aquaculture (CIFA) On 2 January 2008, And Contributed To Research On Genetic Up Gradation Of Carps, Genetic Linkage Mapping And Transgenics In Ornamental Fish. Dr. Jayasankar Later Joined As Director, CIFA On 12 January 2012. He Currently Manages Research On Aquaculture Production, Fish Genetics And Biotechnology, Fish Health Management, Fish Nutrition And Physiology And Aquaculture Extension. He Has Over 100 Research Publications To His Credit And Has Guided Several Students For Mfsc And Ph.D Dissertation. As A Research Manager, Some Of His Priorities Are Infrastructure Development, Need Based And Demand Driven, ,Reorientation Of Research Programmes, HRD With Focus On Enhancing Work Efficiency And Improving Work Culture, Development Of Second Line Of Researchers In Many Critical Areas, trengthening Linkages With National And International Institutions, And Optimal And Effective Utilization Of Allotted Budget.
