The intent of this book is to prove the case that the Civil War did not have to be fought. That slavery would have died a natural death of its own. That economic hardship did not have to be imposed on the South, causing it to secede. That militarily, the War could have been ended by the North in months once it did begin; and that the Union would have reconstituted itself without war in a matter of years after the South had been compelled to secede.It is hoped that upon the conclusion of these arguments, the case will have been made that the Civil War could and should have been avoided and that Abraham Lincoln was not the great American genius historians have made him out to be.
