George Edward Sullivan was born in 1927 and grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Navy for several years, working as a journalist; back in civilian life, he attended Fordham University, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in 1952. Sullivan pursued his writing career through positions in public relations and publicity before publishing his first nonfiction children's book in 1961. By 1962, he was writing full-time, and has since written more than 100 books on a wide variety of subjects, from sports to politics to history. An amateur photographer, Sullivan often provides photographs to illustrate his books as well. Though he has taught nonfiction writing at Fordham, his alma mater, Sullivan's research and writing keep him busy. He is never short for ideas, simply following his own curiosity to uncover subjects that will interest his readers. Sullivan lives in New York City with his wife. They have one son." Less
