Alcide-Hyacinthe Wood Beauchesne (born in Lorient on March 31 , 1800 1 , died in Charroux Allier onNovember 20, 1873He was a gentleman in the King's Chamber under Louis XVIII , Chief of Staff in the Department of Fine Arts from 1825 to 1830, and then Head of Section at the Archives.
He is known for two books:
Louis XVII, his life, his agony and his death (1852), where he told with more color than criticism, the captivity of the son of Louis XVI. He is interested (and after him, dozens of historians will do the same) to the place where we could have buried Louis XVII.
Life M me Elisabeth, sister of Louis XVI (published in 1870).
Beauchesne not only exploited the National Archives (Archives of the Empire, the Town Hall, the Prefecture of Police), but had access to the memories of the Duchess of Tourzel thanks to her granddaughter the Duchess Des Cars . Beauchesne claims to have put in touch with the still-alive people to whom the chance of their position or the duties of their office had opened the doors of the prison of the Tower of the Temple.
