During the final exodus from Vietnam in 1975, a family from Saigon arrives in a refugee camp in Florida. Their old professions-physician, lawyer, technician-are useless to them now. Their main worries are obtaining a sponsor, finding a place to live, getting some kind of jobs, and learning what happened to prevent their father from joining them in their new country. Tao, the lawyer, who had secretly been a Communist radical in Saigon, finds fault with almost everything she sees in the U. S, which creates conflict with the other characters, who are simply trying to survive. Other things to add to the mix are the fact that Tao's husband absconded with the family's money and disappeared just before the exodus. There is also a sponsor who may or may not have ulterior motives. This full-length play will take an hour to an hour and a half to run. It requires six adults, a child, and various extras. All the characters except one are Vietnamese. There are several dramatic scenes with speeches long enough to allow the actors to show versatility and range.
