Silence! Deadly silence- deadly- the type of silence which embraces death and welcomes misfortune. The disease lay upon the torn sheets, quivering in its restless slumber. Might you think me mad? Hark! The still air had sharpened- not dulled- my senses, alluring me into a state of tense serenity. I heard things- felt things- things even you would not imagine. I might be mad; madness seems to prey upon me in my most fragile hours. So, I shall tell you my story- for it shall be good- and let you be my judge and jury. And you shall enlighten me as to what I did wrong, for I know not.
