This history of the Cambridge School Classics Project has been written making use of abundant archival material and drawing upon the first-hand experience of the author as a participant in the Project's work. The study deals with the micro-politics of curriculum change, presented against a background of political change at national level. A recurrent theme is the catalytic effect of comprehensive reorganisation in concentrating the minds of Classics teachers and in promoting the transformation of a subject traditionally reserved for the privileged few into a subject for the many.
