The Hat Shop 'READ TOGETHER' series is formatted to provide a launching platform for early readers along with a segment of adult read text to provide greater depth to the story. Each page has large font sentences focusing on alliterations to support new readers. Each facing page contains the story illustrations and a paragraph of further text for the adult to read.'Nic Buys a Hat', like all books in the series, presents gender neutral insights into career pathways. The dual text option allows the readers to initially share the literary experience while providing a platform to extend young readers towards independence in reading the whole of the text on each page.Teaching and learning notes can be found in the back pages of this book.Teaching and Learning notes:This book is ideal to use as an instructional text for parents and educators. -Large font text allows the adult to guide the young reader through the sound blends and to identify known sight words.-Simple punctuation, commas, should be identified as rest or breath marks for very young readers.-The rhyme in the text supports a predictable sound blend.-The rhythm in the text allows the young reader to build confidence.-The alliteration focus is the repeating letter of adjacent words to support oral annunciation.-Comic Sans font is used throughout the book to underpin the child's handwriting learning, formation of the vowel 'a' being crucial.-Predictable storylines in each book in the series supports the young reader to focus on the new language or idea of the book while confident in the direction and flow of the story.-Simple images associated with the text encourages the young reader to focus on the main idea in the writing. Further investigation of the pictures presents a platform for discussion between the adult and junior reader, 'What else can you see in the picture? What is your favourite page? Why? ' -Two blocks of text relating to each image scaffolds the learning with the 'adult' text block available to extend the young reader.-The general theme of each Hat Shop Book is to present a career in non-gender bias image. Each character is non-gender with character names presenting points for discussion.
