There are selected historical black and white photographs of the city. The book celebrates both the familiar and the out-of-the-way, the traditional and the avant-garde. Beebe's camera captures a glittering Chinese New Year's dragon and cable cars creeping up Hyde Street, a North Beach saloon and houseboats in Sausalito, Victorian houses and monolithic office buildings, colourful parades and the ballet. Also included is information on the newly-designated Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
