Jeanne M. Dams (born in 1941) in South Bend , Indiana , United States , is an American woman of letters and mystery novel author . In 1995 , she published her first novel, The Body in the Transept , which won the Agatha Prize for first novel and which featured the character of amateur sleuth Dorothy Martin, an American schoolteacher who, upon retirement, went to live in England. The series of investigations of this colorful character has about fifteen titles.
