The matter presented in the following pages is not an expression of opinion of a single individual, but rather the grouping together of ideas advanced by a considerable number of saw makers, saw filers and mill experts, who as is well known, are not wholly agreed upon what constitutes the best practice in the fitting of saws. It is manifestly impossible to present directions that may be successfully applied in every instance. The quality of different saws and the conditions under which they are used are widely different.
