The Great War in England in 1897 William Le Queux Britain is invaded by coalition forces led by France and Russia. Where to turn? Germany enters the war on the side of the British, and the English patriots eventually turn the tide and the victors divide the spoils. Britain seizes Algeria and Russian Central Asia. Germany takes much of mainland France. In 1894, the German-British alliance seemed plausible as only a few years later Britain and France were on the verge of war during the Fashoda Incident. Le Queux's "invasion fiction" is written in a journalistic style, a genre that proved wildly successful with readers, and a feat he would repeat years later writing "The Invasion of 1910."  Less
