Considering today's architectural identity crisis, the provision of a simple practical solution to explore the identifying factors from a real and available resource for researchers, designers, and even architectural users is a basic need. As a result of several years of research, the present book offers a realistic, pragmatic, and user-friendly method. The difference between this method and previous methods is that the basis for achieving the identity of architecture is human, which can be identified and categorized according to their perceptual aspects. This process of achieving architectural identity not only lacks the previous complexities and uncertainty for architectural designers, but novice designers and researchers are also able to access the identifying factors of each region and use them to give identity to today's architecture of the given region. This book involves four sections. In the first section, the vernacular architecture identity, the type of studies, and the categories of its identifying factors have been reviewed in a wide range of different sciences. In the second and third sections, the definitions of vernacular architecture and identity have been reviewed, and a classification of these definitions has been provided, resulting in the main model of the book, i.e. the model of identifying factors. The fourth section has examined the exploration process of the identifying factors using the model. This book is the outcome of 10 years of the author's research and teaching in the area of architecture. The author is an assistant professor and has a Ph.D. degree from the University of Tehran. He lives in Iran. Less
