“The Lost Continent” is an early sci-fi novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, originally published in 1916 and originally titled “Beyond Thirty.” The story takes place in the year 2137, 200 years after the eastern hemisphere was cut off from the west after the war in the early 20th century. The story was heavily influenced by the events of World War I and reflects U.S. sentiments at the time of writing. When the war broke out, Americans were predominantly isolationist and wary of being drawn into a European war.
