Veronica's Sunset is told by the witty, eighteen-year-old Veronica Cheung, a Chinese American vampire from San Francisco. Yes, she has a modified diet of raw meat and animal blood. Yes, she has gifts like superspeed and superstrength. But no, she is not a ridiculously good-looking white girl who sparkles in the sun. Like all vampires, Veronica must follow three rules: (1) Don't tell humans that she's a vampire, (2) Don't harm humans, and (3) Serve humans. That's right. A vampire's ultimate purpose is to serve human beings, and Veronica's vampire family believes the best way to do that is by becoming a doctor.Failing to follow the rules will inevitably result in a prison sentence by the International Vampire Council, and of course, becoming the subject of her nosy family's gossip. That's why Veronica finds herself in trouble when she falls in love with human Hiro Yutaka and becomes tempted to break the rules one by one. For the first time in her life, as she dreams up a future different from the one her family has planned, Veronica must grapple between the duty that was given to her and the destiny she wants for herself.
