Albert Payson Terhune (1872 – 1942) was a celebrated American author, journalist, and avid dog breeder, best known for his numerous novels detailing the adventures of his beloved collies. The first of his collie-based novels was Lad: A Dog(1919), which was an instant hit with both adults and children, reprinted over 80 times and made into a film in 1962. Other work by Terhune includes: True Dog Stories (1936), Real Tales of Real Dogs (1935), and My Friend The Dog (1926).
