Have fun discovering the Animals of South America! Our unit contains information sheets and follow-up activities that are complete in themselves, but they can also be used in conjunction with other resources. Have the children brainstorm and make a list of animals that they think are native to South America. As you progress in this unit, have the children look back at their lists to see how many on their original list are actually native to South America. Daily large-group input activities could include films, videos, and animal legends of South America. A trip to the zoo would be an excellent follow-up to this unit. Children could take pictures of South American animals to use in presentations. Included in this resource are information sheets, activity cards and suggested activities that focus on the following areas: research, creative writing, language development, and art and crafts. Less
