Brief Extract: Balzac was born in Tours on May 16, 1799, the feast day of Saint Honoré, whose name was given him, which sounded good and auspicious. Little Honore was not a child prodigy; he did not announce prematurely that he would do the human comedy . He was a fresh, vermeil, well-behaved, playful man, with bright, gentle eyes, but nothing to distinguish him from the others, at least from unkind eyes.
