In the week of May 8th, demonstrations in and around Sucre, Bolivia, escalated into a full blockade of streets, roads and alleys. The cattle in the open trucks that were waiting for the blockade to be lifted were dying. The streets smelled of dead decaying animals, rubbish pilled up in the streets because garbage trucks couldn't get through. Hospitals could not be reached by ambulances, causing deaths and critical situations for civilians and the food in Sucre was slowly running out because the city could not be supplied. On May 8th. 2018 I was stuck in the city of Sucre. I had but one choice to get out so it seemed. The only way for me to get out was on foot. Airport roads were blocked and the airport itself was occupied. 11 hours...50 km...20 kg on my back... 3.000 meters altitude...mountainous area...little oxygen...aggressive and armed protestors: the perfect conditions for an emotional release. During this day I became overwhelmed by emotions of hatred, anger, sadness and amazement. I never knew I possessed such a profound range of emotions, simple and effective. These were indeed my experiences of mental awareness in some important ways which gave me the strength to pull though, brought about by many different, negative and positive thoughts and emotions. I safeguarded these emotional thoughts like a diary in my head that will always remind of what had happened and will serve as a future inspiration and source of strength.
