Probably each of us has found ourselves in a place where we need something from God. We prayed and hoped that the answer would come quickly, but the answer may delay, and we may wonder if the answer will come at all. The response may be delayed because of the timing, or maybe we are praying for the wrong thing. The delay may be due to God needing to prepare us for the answer. A common reason for the delay is that we are not prepared for God to answer. He may be waiting for us to make room in our lives for the answer by removing some obstacles and unnecessary distractions first. Steve Harvey prayed for a new car, but his mother reminded him that his old car had to be removed first, or he would have nowhere to put a new car. He removed the clunker, and, in a few days, a new car was sitting in its place. We can have clunkers in our lives. The clunkers in our lives take up space and distract us from the more significant work God desires to accomplish in us. You see, God's primary purpose for our lives is to bring us to spiritual maturity. Along the way, we gradually come to resemble Christ in our character and lifestyle. The clunkers are unnecessary clutter and distractions. As the author of Hebrews wrote in chapter 12, we should lay aside every weight and the sin that so easily entangles us and run with endurance the race set before us by God. The delay may be God's way of saying, something in our lives must go first before God can do something new in our lives. Until we do, the answer is not likely to come regardless of how positive we might be. #prayer #Christian #Christian living #discipleship #holy living #self-help #counseling #Christian counseling Less
