William shares a picnic lunch with his great-grandfather, thus narrowly escaping a shopping expedition with his great-grandmother, mother and sister-In a quiet moment while watching honeybees at work, young William finds himself face to face with a bee. Its hypnotic gaze transports him to a daydream world where time is compressed. This dream world reflects some of Williams own character of wonder and surprise, where fact and fiction mingle in a whimsical way-On the journey down his daydream road, he has several interesting adventures. First, William meets a wooden bee that needs a little help. Then along comes a feisty fantail bird named Flit, who speaks with a Scottish accent. His next encounter is with his grandmother, who died years before William was born. He also comes upon a purple cat that spouts poetry by William Wordsworth-Luminescent dragonflies lead the way to a kindly fellow named McGregor, who enjoys playing the bagpipes. Through a rainbow tunnel, William searches for his way back to the picnic from his daydream world. And it all began with A Bees Kiss. Less
