Baseball Joe is a fictional baseball player who is the protagonist in a juvenile fiction series that follows his career as a young school player to a professional in the World Series. The stories were written by Howard R. Garis under the name Lester Chadwick (a homage to legendary sports baseball writer Henry Chadwick.) "Baseball Joe on the School Nine" is one of the early stories in the series. It was published in 1912 and features Joe as a young player on his school's team. Throughout the story, Joe faces dramatic challenges both on and off the field. Garis wrote the stories for the Stratemeyer Syndicate, the company responsible for other classic juvenile fiction tales like Nancy Drew, the Hardy Boys, and Tom Swift. Less
