It was Christmas Week in Stevensville, North Carolina. The town's people were finishing their Christmas shopping unaware that in a short while the lives of Dr. Jeff Richardson, Sheriff Hopper, and the group of men who would make up a rescue team would be forced to trek to the top of Mount Mitchell to see if anyone survived the plane crash which happened in a blinding snow storm. Jeff Richardson, a widower, would be forced to confront his continued depression at the untimely loss of his beloved wife as he searched the wreckage of the plane seeking survivors. Sheriff Hopper would also confront tragedy as the leader of the search team. You will meet the rescue team including the Blanten brothers, Korean War veterans, who survived a winter of fighting, and who are now forced to relive the cold and the sight of death once again. You will meet and follow the passengers on board the doomed aircraft as they approach their fate. You will become part of their lives as they near their destination. On board the plane, Evelyn Lamb would confront death as the plane splintered into pieces, her thoughts centered on how her abusive life with her husband had shattered her dreams of love and family. And now, alone in the freezing darkness her blood dripping from her open wounds, she wondered if she would be alive in the morning. Rescue on Mount Mitchell follows the lives of Jeff and Evelyn as they confront the events which alienated them from having dreams and seeking happiness. Could being part of the rescue team heal Jeff Richardson and could being saved heal Evelyn Lamb? Rescue on Mount Mitchell is a fictional novel based on a true event. During the late 1950's a military plane crashed on the north face of the mountain. I changed it to a civilian aircraft and let the story unfold.
