Passionately in love with his fiancée, memories of Kate Knox are the only thing that get Army Ranger Chase McCloud through months of captivity & torture by the Taliban. Wounded and barely alive, he is rescued and brought home, where he learns that Kate has disappeared. Barely recovered from his wounds, he begins a search for her that eventually convinces him that she’s dead.Overwhelmed by grief, Chase shuts himself off from everyone, losing himself in an alcohol-induced fog. Resisting help from his Lakota relatives, they nevertheless try to break through the walls he’s built around himself. When Chase doesn’t respond, they use mystical native ways to heal him and he receives a vision that Kate is still alive.Kate’s privileged and peaceful existence is shattered when she unknowingly becomes the center of a master plan that includes murder, greed and dirty politics.
